In short: Satellite Engine itself has no analytics, no advertising or third-party scripts. Nothing you do inside the app is sent to a server. Cloudflare is used as a service provider for hosting, so they collect some basic request data (see "What the server sees" below).

What stays in your browser

Two kinds of thing are kept on your device, and neither is ever transmitted.

The first is your settings: observer locations, display preferences. The second is the app's working data - a cached copy of the public satellite catalogue and the tag identifying its version, so that opening the app again does not mean downloading several megabytes of orbital elements over and over. That copy is the same public file everyone gets.

Clearing app.satelliteengine.com site's data deletes all of it - there is no copy held anywhere else, and no way for anyone to restore it for you.

Your location

If you use the locate control, your browser asks your permission and the coordinates are used only on your device to work out what your sky looks like. Free features never send it anywhere. If a future server-side feature needs your location, we will say so before sending anything, and ask for your explicit permission in plain text to send your location.

What the server sees

The site and the app are served through Cloudflare. It records standard request data, including IP address, user agent and others. For details on how Cloudflare hosting handles that data, please refer to their Privacy Policy. Satellite Engine does not access or store individual request data.

Cookies, and why there is no banner

No cookies are set for tracking or advertising, and nothing kept on your device identifies you or follows you between sites.

Consent rules cover anything stored on your device, not only cookies - so the settings and the cached catalogue described above are both in scope. They are exempt because they are strictly necessary to provide the thing you ask for. The catalogue is not an extra, it is what the app draws. There is no version of this app that shows you satellites without holding their orbital elements.

Accounts

There are none. Some of the planned features will require accounts; this page will be updated before that happens.
